Summary of Position: As a Residential Behavioral Health Specialist, you will play a crucial role in our mental health residential facility for adults in Vermont. This role encompasses elements from various positions, ensuring a comprehensive approach to support and care.
Essential Functions:
- Serve as a primary support staff in a residential setting, working with adults with developmental disabilities.
- Provide total care for day-to-day tasks, including bathing, grooming, transportation, housekeeping, grocery shopping, and meal preparation.
- Provide transportation to and from community activities, mental health appointments, and school (if applicable). Use of personal vehicle may be required.
- Promote an active lifestyle through engagement in activities and exercise.
- Provide individualized services across different settings, including in the community.
- Deliver and administer medication according to agency guidelines.
- Contribute to the development and ensure support with progress towards objectives identified in Individual Support Agreement (ISA).
- Preserve privacy, confidentiality, and ensure dignity for all residents.
- Capture online notes, data related to residents’ daily experiences, and treatment plan progress in electronic medical record software.
- Lift and transfer residents, up to 30 pounds, in a safe manner
- Work with 1-2 clients in crisis or with high clinical acuity including supporting client 2 or 3 on 1 while maintaining client in line of sight at all times.
- Be a positive influence.
- Shape new behaviors and support learning through implementing customized behavior plans and developing healthy, therapeutic relationships with residents.
- Provide safe and reliable supervision, navigating stressful or escalated moments.
- Attend training, workshops, and treatment team meetings.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license, excellent driving record, and access to a safe, reliable, insured vehicle.
- Experience with technology such as Microsoft Suite.
- Prior experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred but not required.
- Ability to assist clients that may require physical interventions and frequent physical activity. Ability to walk up to several miles and lift and transfer up to 30 pounds.
- Ability to effectively manage and de-escalate situations involving clients who may become combative or willing to participate in mitigation training.
- Skills to work with mental health/developmental/co-occurring residential clients with highly complex medical needs.
- Skills to deal with extensive instances of unpredictability exhibited by clients. Including things such as suicidality and exhibiting dangerous behaviors towards self or others.
