POSITION:  Child Care Interventionist

DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO:  New Leaf Clinician

SUMMARY OF POSITION: Under the direct supervision of the New Leaf Clinician, the New Leaf Child Care Interventionist assumes the responsibility of providing direct, on-site support in the planning and executing of daily programs to meet the developmental needs of the total group of children in care.  Follows and implements standards established by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), Vermont Department of Licensing, and the New Leaf Family Center.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate sound knowledge of child growth and development, social and emotional development, and the potential impact of relationships and environmental factors.
  • Adhere to the family-centered, strengths-based, and outcomes-based philosophy and practice of the New Leaf Family Center.
  • Be knowledgeable about typical and atypical child development and ways that development is likely to be impacted by stress or trauma.
  • Assist in the planning and implementing of a program/curriculum that meets the developmental, emotional, physical, intellectual, needs of both individual children and the group.
  • Incorporate “Responsive Teaching Curriculum” into the program to support children and their families.
  • Model and engage in age-appropriate, communication, behavior, and active play with children to contribute to a positive, healthy, safe, and productive work environment.
  • Maintain the needs of children as the primary focus.
  • Take responsibility for own participation as a team member.
  • Follow all behavioral and crisis plans for individual children and the group.
  • Record behavior in an accurate, detailed, and timely manner.
  • Provide verbal information to parents regarding their children in a positive manner.
  • Be willing to learn crisis de-escalation and passive restraint techniques.
  • Participate in required professional development trainings, including Handle With Care, First Aid and Infant/Child CPR certification.
  • Assist team in facilitating and/or implementing of monthly parent meetings.
  • Understand, implement, and comply with WCMHS policies and procedures.
  • Always maintain confidentiality as established in WCMHS policies.
  • Complete all agency-required documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Document professional trainings and keep professional folder up to date.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings at New Leaf as required.
  • Ability to be flexible to maintain programmatic requirements to meet staffing ratios.
  • Maintain consistency in attendance of the daily schedule.
  • Follow supervision directives and other responsibilities as assigned by the New Leaf Clinician.
  • Provide client transportation as determined by child’s treatment team. Staff is responsible for carrying adequate insurance coverage.
  • Provide other duties/responsibilities as assigned.

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in human services, education or psychology preferred. If degree requirements are not complete, working toward BA/BS is required.  

  • Equivalent of 2 years early childhood experience
  • Experience working with emotionally challenged children preferred.
  • Familiarity with and commitment to New Leaf Family Center philosophy and goals.
  • Willingness to pursue professional development related to program goals.
  • Able to safely lift and carry 50 lbs.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license, excellent driving record and access to a safe, reliable adequately insures vehicle is required.
