POSITION: WCMHS is seeking a dedicated Middle School Science Teacher to join our independent therapeutic school. This role involves designing and implementing engaging, hands-on science curricula tailored to each student's needs in a small class setting. The teacher will foster a love of science and technology while nurturing critical thinking skills in a supportive and therapeutic learning environment. Responsibilities include managing classroom instruction, requisitioning necessary materials, implementing social and behavioral programming, and maintaining positive relationships with students, families, and staff. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential, as is the ability to work collaboratively within the program’s mission and guidelines. Candidates must be open to learning de-escalation techniques and capable of safely restraining students if necessary. The ideal candidate is adaptable, compassionate, and committed to helping students succeed academically and personally.
QUALIFICATIONS: The Educational Instructor's education and work experience will include:
- Bachelor's degree, with a teaching license in the appropriate area of instructional specialization, grades 7-12 preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree with extensive knowledge (18 college credits) and experience in instructional specialization with teaching experience required.
- Teachers meeting Vermont’s Highly Qualified standard preferred.
- Teaching experience with children with severe emotional and behavioral challenges or other mental health issues preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Able to execute both verbal and physical restraint de-escalation techniques or willingness to learn de-escalation techniques.
- Able to travel around the office/classroom and occasionally traverse outdoor setting up to one mile in a continuous session.
- Able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
- Able to move items up to 50 pounds around the office/classroom for various needs.
- Ability to interact respectfully and effectively with clients, WCMHS staff, and other professionals. Commitment to the WCMHS mission and positive regard for individuals accessing services.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: This full-time position offers a hourly wage of $26.24 and excellent benefits, including tuition reimbursement/student loan assistance; generous paid time off; employer-sponsored health, dental, life, and disability insurances; and a 403(b)-retirement plan with employer match.
